Foursquare is a location based social media service
site for mobile devices. This application, after turning on your GPS option,
lets you select from a list of venues that the application locates nearby and
‘check-in’ to the place.
For almost six months, the Foursquare team
has worked on a major redesign. On the morning of June 7th, 2012,
the team re-launched the application. The new design of the application has
more interactive tools and many new features.
Each Android and iPhone app has been
updated to the latest version and the Blackberry app will be upgraded in a few
weeks time.
The Head of Search, Andrew Hogue said that
the Foursquare team looked through every check-in and user profile since the
past three years to create this easy-to-use new smart look. The team just
wanted to simplify the entire process and wanted to encourage people to move
out into the real world and experience new things.
Friend’s
feed
When any of your friends checked in before,
the app would just show the place where the person checked in. The new design
allows you to not only view where the friend checked in but also lets you like
the post and see the picture that was posted along with the check-in.
The
Check-ins and lists
The check-in option and the lists have been
removed from the tool bar at the bottom. On the top right hand corner you can
see the check-in option. The check-in process is much faster now.
‘Me’
section
The ‘me’ section looks more personalized.
It shows your photos, badges, lists, tips, friends and stars instead of the
leaderboard. These are shown as big thumbnails.
Specials
can be unlocked
The new design allows you to freely scroll
through check-ins and venues without any hassles. The specials that can be
unlocked are also shown. It is so much easier to access the app now.
The
Explore tab
The explore tab is a prominent feature in
the new app design. You can add pictures of venues or food or anything relevant
to that particular place you checked-in to. The redesign of the explore tab is
much simpler and it is easier to find out where your friends are based on your
location. It is also easier to view the recommended venues on the app.
According to what the Head of Search,
Andrew Hogue said, the new design makes the whole process more magical because
of all the new features installed and also because it’s much simpler to use. So
make sure you get your Foursquare app updated immediately and try out these new
easy-to-use features.
